There stood a small village in the middle of a rainforest, on the borders of Japan. It was perennially covered in mist, shrouded in dead silence, maybe too silent? Legends whispered of a silent ghost that dwelt in an eerie well. This entity had become a popular subject of gossip and many stories of a spirit, veiled in sorrow and mystery, could be heard from the local villagers.
It was monsoon and the villagers were in their homes, huddled around the warmth of the firewood. “The sound of rain is so pleasant. I feel like laying down and relaxing”, thought Bea to herself. Bea was a 17 year old girl, living all by herself in a Japanese Minka. Bea spent her days roaming the depths of the rainforest, collecting berries and basic supplies. She was a free soul, wandering around, with nothing to stop her but whenever she came across that peculiar well, chills ran down her spine. She could hear whispers of something unknown calling to her. The villagers had made numerous attempts to tear down the well but it seemed that no one was brave enough to get too close to it.
One moonlit night, Bea gathered up courage to uncover the truth behind the silent ghost, and she embarked on a journey to the well. It was foggy and the chill winds blew fiercely. The same strange noise and whispers started to play in Bea’s mind. Ignoring these strange phenomena Bea cleared the obstacles and made her way to the well. She was now standing 5 meters away from the well and you could already notice the sense of fear in Bea’s eyes. The sound of whispers got louder, and just then it clicked! Bea had discovered the reason behind all this terror. Bea made her way back to the village and asked everyone to gather at the center of the village. She said, “My heart was about to give up and right then I realized it was the wind that was creating those eerie noises and there is no ghost.” The villagers were baned and heavily relieved after finding out the cause of the noise. They all thanked Bea for uncovering the truth behind the so-called ‘silent ghost’ and rewarded her for her bravery.
Peace and happiness once again prevailed in the village.
