Mid-Level English Teacher

Position Overview

The Mid-Level English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based English instruction that strengthens students’ literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.

The teacher will integrate the National Curriculum with internationally benchmarked inquiry-based frameworks to ensure students develop strong reading comprehension, analytical writing, public speaking, and literary appreciation skills.

Beyond subject teaching, the English teacher plays a central role in cultivating the school’s reading culture and fostering articulate, ethical, and reflective learners.

The English & Reading Culture Lead is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based English instruction while leading and strengthening the school-wide literacy and reading culture initiative.

This role goes beyond classroom teaching. The successful candidate will:

  • Champion structured reading programs
  • Elevate academic writing standards
  • Strengthen student voice and communication
  • Lead literary events and publication initiatives
  • Support teachers in integrating literacy across subjects

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Design and deliver engaging English lessons (Literature, Language, Writing, Communication).
  • Implement the IWS 5E Instructional Model.
  • Integrate project-based and inquiry-based learning strategies.
  • Develop annual and unit plans aligned with national standards and international benchmarks.
  • Ensure curriculum alignment across grade levels.

Reading Culture Leadership (School-Wide Responsibility)

  • Design and coordinate a structured Reading Culture Framework.
  • Organize reading challenges, author studies, book talks, and literary festivals.
  • Develop reading assessment and tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with the library team to strengthen book circulation and student engagement.
  • Support teachers in integrating reading strategies across subjects.

Writing & Communication Excellence

  • Develop structured writing frameworks (narrative, persuasive, and analytical writing).
  • Guide students in creative writing, poetry, storytelling, and script writing.
  • Lead debate clubs, public speaking sessions, and literary competitions.
  • Support school magazine, newsletter, and publication projects.

Assessment & Academic Standards

  • Conduct formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide detailed, constructive writing feedback.
  • Maintain academic documentation and literacy tracking data.
  • Use data to improve instructional strategies and raise attainment standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time teaching experience at the middle level.
  • Demonstrated strength in academic writing instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English or Education.
  • Experience with inquiry-based or internationally benchmarked curricula (IMYC-style, Cambridge, IB-style frameworks).
  • Experience leading reading initiatives or literary programs.
  • Valid teaching license.
  • Strong digital literacy.
