Middle School Math Teacher
Position Overview
The Middle School Math Teacher at Imperial World School (IWS) is responsible for delivering a high-quality, inquiry-based mathematics education for students in Grades 6–8. This role bridges the gap between foundational numeracy and advanced secondary logic by integrating the Nepal National Curriculum with the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). A signature responsibility of this position is the leadership and development of the IWS Math Park, where the teacher will design and prepare physical resources that transform abstract concepts into tangible, hands-on experiences.
Instructional & Literary Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons in Mathematics that prioritize conceptual understanding over rote learning.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Implement research-based pedagogical strategies, including project-based learning (PBL), to encourage students to investigate and understand mathematical phenomena.
- Curriculum Mapping and Lesson Planning: Design and implement high-quality, inquiry-based lesson plans using the IWS 5-E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) template to ensure student-centered learning and conceptual mastery.
- Math Park Innovation & Resource Prep: Lead the creation and preparation of durable, interactive resources for the IWS Math Park. This includes building and maintaining tools such as:
- Kinesthetic Models: Large-scale "Human Number Lines," outdoor coordinate grids, and giant geometric nets.
- Measurement Tools: Designing "Math Trails" that use clinometers and trundle wheels for real-world height and distance calculations.
- Conceptual Exhibits: Preparing weather-resistant models for the Pythagoras theorem, probability spinners, and algebraic balance scales.
- Strategic Planning: Proactively promote the Nepali department’s achievements and student work through regular contributions to the school newsletter.
- Assessment & Feedback: Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, including "Field Assessments" held in the Math Park to evaluate practical application of skills.
Student Support & Classroom Culture
- Inclusive Environment: Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes a growth mindset and removes the "fear of math."
- Holistic Development: Serve as a mentor to middle school students, supporting their transition into secondary education and contributing to the school’s pastoral care systems.
- Departmental Collaboration: Work with Science and Art colleagues to create interdisciplinary resources for the Math Park, highlighting the connection between math and the world around us.
- Communication: Regularly contribute to the school newsletter to showcase Math Park activities and student achievements in mathematical competitions.

- Curriculum Experience: Familiarity with international frameworks such as the IMYC or Singapore Math.
- Digital Proficiency: Strong skills in integrating ICT tools (e.g., GeoGebra, Desmos) alongside physical Math Park resources.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Mathematical Expertise: Strong subject-matter knowledge with the ability to simplify complex middle-school topics like algebra and geometry.
- Creative Resourcefulness: Skill in designing and "DIY-ing" physical resources for the Math Park using sustainable or local materials.
- Collaborative Leadership: Ability to motivate students and lead departmental initiatives with a solution-oriented mindset.
