Secondary Nepali Teacher

Position Overview

The Secondary School Nepali Teacher at Imperial World School Nepal is responsible for delivering a high-quality, inquiry-based education in Nepali language and literature that aligns with the school’s mission for holistic student development. This role involves fostering a deep appreciation for Nepali heritage, facilitating creative expression through language, and ensuring students achieve excellence in both the Nepal National Curriculum and international frameworks like the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). A key component of this role also includes guiding students in major literary platforms, including the Kathmandu Literature and Art Festival (KALF), and contributing to the school's communication through regular newsletters.

Instructional & Literary Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons in Nepali language, grammar, and literature that prioritize conceptual understanding over rote learning.
  • Inquiry-Based Learning: Implement research-based pedagogical strategies, such as project-based learning (PBL) and the IWS 5-E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) model, to encourage students to investigate linguistic and cultural phenomena.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive Year-Long Plan that aligns the Nepal National Curriculum with international standards, ensuring all learning objectives are met systematically.
  • Literary Festival Leadership: Actively prepare and guide students for participation in the Kathmandu Literature and Art Festival(KALF). This includes coaching students for poetry slams, panel discussions, and creative writing workshops to showcase their talents on a national stage.
  • Newsletter & Publications: Proactively promote the Nepali department’s achievements and student work through regular contributions to the school newsletter.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, providing timely and meaningful feedback to support student growth and raise attainment standards in Nepali literacy.

Student Support & Classroom Culture

  • Cultural Mentorship: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect for Nepali traditions while embracing a global mindset.
  • Creative Expression: Organize and lead departmental events such as story-writing workshops, recitation competitions, and drama productions to enhance students' soft skills and confidence.
  • Parent Engagement: Maintain professional and regular communication with parents regarding student progress and the value of Nepali language education.<

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Nepali, Education (B.Ed.), or a related field from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of current, full-time teaching experience in a secondary school setting, preferably in an international or diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid teaching license or certification relevant to secondary education in Nepal.
  • Digital Proficiency: Proficiency in digital tools for classroom management and student communication, including the use of Nepali Unicode and LMS platforms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Linguistic Expertise: Exceptional command of written and spoken Nepali, with the ability to simplify complex literary concepts for students.
  • Editorial Skills: Ability to curate and edit high-quality content for school publications and newsletters.
  • Creative Thinking: Ability to design innovative literary projects and troubleshoot logistical challenges for events like art festivals.
  • ICT Integration: Effectively integrate ICT (smart boards, digital research tools) into the Nepali classroom to enhance the learning journey.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: Demonstrated commitment to student welfare and best-practice child protection policies.
