Position Overview
The Secondary School Math Teacher at Imperial World School Nepal is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based mathematics education that aligns with the school’s mission for holistic student development. This role involves teaching students to think critically and logically about the world, facilitating hands-on problem-solving experiences, and fostering a passion for mathematical discovery. The teacher will implement a combination of the Nepal National Curriculum and international frameworks (such as the International Middle Years Curriculum - IMYC), ensuring students are prepared for both examinations and local as well as global challenges.
Instructional & Literary Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons in Mathematics that prioritize conceptual understanding over rote learning.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Implement research-based pedagogical strategies, including project-based learning (PBL), to encourage students to investigate and understand mathematical phenomena.
- Curriculum Mapping and Lesson Planning: Design and implement high-quality, inquiry-based lesson plans using the IWS 5-E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) template to ensure student-centered learning and conceptual mastery.
- Math Park Innovation & Resource Prep: Lead the creation and preparation of durable, interactive resources for the IWS Math Park. This includes building and maintaining tools such as:
- Kinesthetic Models: Large-scale "Human Number Lines," outdoor coordinate grids, and giant geometric nets.
- Measurement Tools: Designing "Math Trails" that use clinometers and trundle wheels for real-world height and distance calculations.
- Conceptual Exhibits: Preparing weather-resistant models for the Pythagoras theorem, probability spinners, and algebraic balance scales.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive Year-Long Plan that ensures all learning objectives of the Nepal National Curriculum and international frameworks (IMYC) are met systematically.
- Curriculum Alignment: Lead horizontal alignment to ensure consistency across grade-level sections and vertical alignment to provide a seamless transition of mathematical skills from elementary through secondary school.
- Assessment & Feedback: Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, providing timely and meaningful feedback to support student growth and raise attainment standards.
- Technology Integration: Utilize technologically equipped classrooms and digital tools (e.g., graphing software, simulations, multimedia) to enhance the learning experience and prepare students for a tech-driven world.
Student Support & Classroom Culture
- Inclusive Environment: Maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, curiosity, and a growth mindset among diverse learners.
- Holistic Development: Act as a mentor to students, supporting their social-emotional well-being and participating in the school’s pastoral care systems.
- Extracurricular Engagement: Contribute to the school’s flagship events and activities, such as Math Olympiads, Science Fairs, and inter-school competitions.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mathematics or Mathematics Education from a recognized and accredited university.
- Experience: A minimum of three years of current, full-time teaching experience in a secondary school setting, preferably in an international or diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Mathematics or Education.
- Curriculum Experience: Experience with international curricula such as the IMYC or Cambridge IGCSE or IB
- Digital Proficiency: Proficiency in digital tools for classroom management and student communication (e.g., Google Classroom, LMS).
- Certification: Valid teaching license or certification relevant to secondary education.
