The Boy with the Gift

Paaliza Shrestha
A Normal Life
Once, there was a boy named James. He had a family of superheroes, but he never had any superpowers. He had a younger sister, Lily, who had already discovered hers.
“You have so much legacy to carry on, James! You are the son of Fire Blaze and Misty Forest, the most powerful superheroes in the world. You are the thing I hoped for most, but now I don’t even know who you are! Where are your powers? Your sister is already better than you. Go away and don’t talk to me,” said his father.
At school, James saw his friend, Oliver
“Hey James, what happened? You look sad. Did you and your dad fight again?” Oliver asked.
“Whatever. Let’s just go to class,” James replied.
As they walked, they suddenly bumped into someone.
“Watch where you’re going! Oh, look, it’s the super fraud. Why are you even in this school? It’s only for people with real superpowers,” said Max.
“Cut it out, Max. James will get his powers soon,” Oliver retorted.
“Soon? More like never. Whatever, you guys are a waste of my time anyway,” Max said as he walked away.
“Don’t listen to Max; he’s just a bully,” said Oliver.“
“Yeah, I know. By the way, thanks for standing up for me,” said James.
The day eventually ended, and everyone went home. As James and Oliver walked to their houses, a supervillain appeared in front of them.
“Oh, a superhero? I am too powerful for this weak superhero,” said the villain.
“Don’t worry, I’ll stop him,” Oliver said confidently.
“Not a chance,” said the villain, throwing an electrical rope on Oliver.
“James, run away! This is too dangerous for you. Ah!” Oliver screamed in pain.
“Oh yes! I finally got the shock button to work. Soon, I’ll take down every superhero in the world! I took down this weak one, and now I’ll rule this town,” boasted the villain.
“No, you won’t!” James yelled.
“And who’s going to stop me?” the villain sneered.
“I will,” James said with courage.
“You? Ha! What a joke. You don’t even have superpowers. What are you going to do?”
“Hyyyeaahhhh!” At that moment, for the first time, James unleashed his superpowers, strong enough to knock out the villain.
The New Discovery
“Man! I can’t believe you have superpowers now. You must be excited to tell your parents, especially your dad,” Oliver said excitedly
“Yeah, but it’s getting late. I have to go. Bye,” James replied.
When James got home, his parents weren’t there. He turned on the TV and started watching.
TV: : [Breaking news: The superheroes Fire Blaze and Misty Forest are fighting the infamous supervillain Lantern.]
“Of course, Mom and Dad are out fighting again. I’ll just wait to tell them the good news,” James thought to himself.
Soon, his sister Lily came home.
“Mom, Dad, I’m home! Oh, hi James. Are Mom and Dad out fighting again?” Lily asked.
“Yeah, they are. Lily, guess what?” said James.
“What?” Lily asked curiously
“I finally got my superpowers!” James exclaimed with excitement.
“Really? I’m so happy for you, James! Let’s go train now,” Lily suggested.
“Right now? Okay, let’s go,” James agreed.
They trained for a few hours until their parents finally came home.
“So, James, what’s your superhero name going to be?” Lily asked.
“My superhero name is going to be Shock Wave. What’s yours?” James replied.
“Wow! Shock Wave–that’s really cool. My superhero name is Stormy Night. Now come on, let’s Echoes of the Wonderful Mind 19 tell Mom and Dad the big news,” Lily said excitedly
They approached their parents.
“Mom, Dad, I finally got my superpowers!” James said excitedly
“Wow! That’s wonderful, honey. I’m very proud of you,” their mom said.
“Thanks, Mom,” James replied.
“No! You’re lying. I don’t believe you!” their dad screamed in anger.
“Dad! Stop it. James is actually telling the truth. You always treat him differently, but now it’s enough!” Lily said, defending her brother.
“I fought a villain today with my powers and knocked him out,” James added.
“Okay, I believe you. And I’m sorry, James, for the way I treated you,” said Dad.
“It’s okay, Dad. I’m just glad to have your approval,” James replied.
The Infiltration
A few days later...
“James, which villain were you talking about– the one you knocked out?” Dad asked.
“I don’t know, but he had electric wires to defend himself,” James replied.
“Oh no! I think the villain you fought is Lantern’s son, Electron. We need to figure out their plan. We’ll infiltrate one of their bases. It’s inside a mountain. It was their first base, and it might have very confidential information,” Dad explained.
The next day, Fire Blaze, Misty Forest, Shock Wave, and Stormy Night infiltrated Lantern and Electron’s mountain base.
“Where do we go in from?” asked Lily
“Through the vents,” Mom replied.
“It looks like only their henchmen are here,” Dad observed.
“Boss says we’re guarding the base today. Why us?” one of the guards grumbled.
“Whatever. At least we’re not on night duty,” the other guard replied.
“I don’t think there’s anything here,” James said.
“Yeah, let’s go home,” Dad agreed.
The next day, James went to school.
“I can’t wait to meet Oliver and talk to him,” James thought. “Huh? Where is he? Excuse me, have you seen Oliver?” he asked Emma.
“No, I haven’t,” she replied.
“Maybe Max has seen him,” James thought. “Max? Oh no, where’s Max? This is bad,” he realized.
The day ended, and James rushed home to watch the news.
TV:[Breaking news: Lantern has kidnapped two superheroes. Will anyone save them? Who knows?]
“That’s Max and Oliver! Mom, Dad, I’m going to save them,” James said firmly.
“No! It’s too dangerous, son. That base is inside a volcano,” Dad warned.
“I’m still going,” James insisted.
“Then we’re coming with you,” Mom said.
“Yeah!” Lily chimed in.
When they arrived at the volcano base, James was taken aback.
“This place is bigger than I expected,” he said.
“Let’s go in through the vents,” Lily suggested.
“Dad, I don’t want to be a supervillain anymore,” Electron said.
“Noah! How many times do I have to tell you? We are a family of supervillains, not superheroes. Now go get the boxes from the door,” Lantern ordered.
“Yes, Dad,” Electron replied.
“I’m going to check on Electron,” James whispered.
“Be careful,” Mom advised.
“So, your name is Noah?” James asked.
“A superhero? Don’t hurt me!” Noah exclaimed.
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. I’m just here to talk. My name’s James,” he said reassuringly.
“Yeah, my name is Noah. Nice to meet you, James,” said Noah.
“James, where are you? We saved them. Let’s go,” Mom called.
“Oh, that’s my mom calling. I have to go. See you around,” James said.
“Yeah, see you,” Noah replied.
“Oh hey, James,” Oliver greeted.
“Oliver, I missed you!” James said happily.
The New Friends
A few days later…
“Come on, James! We have to go fight Lantern and his son,” said Dad.
“I’m coming,” replied James.
When they arrived, James asked, “Dad, is it okay if I go to another place to fight Electron?”
“Sure,” said Dad.
“Do you ever feel like some part of you is missing?” asked Noah.
“Yeah, I do most of the time,” replied James.
“I feel like there’s something more out there somewhere,” they both said at the same time.
“So, how old are you?” asked James.
“I’m 17. What about you?” said Noah.
“No way! Me too,” replied James.
Suddenly, another superhero appeared. “James? Is that you? Why are you here with this villain?” asked Emma.
“Oh, hey, Emma. Don’t worry, Noah’s not a villain, unlike his dad,” said James.
“Okay, back to what we were talking about–the parts that we feel are missing,” said Noah.
“Wait, you guys also get that feeling?” asked Emma.
“You also get it? Wow, all three of us,” said James.
“James, time to go,” said Dad.
“Oh, my dad’s calling me. I have to go. See you guys tomorrow at the same spot, okay?” said James.
“Okay, see you,” said Noah.
“See you,” said Emma.
“What were you doing all this time?” asked Dad.
“Oh, you know, just fighting,” replied James.
The Hidden Truth
“Wow! I can’t believe we have so much in common–our hair color, eye color, interests, and even our looks!” said Emma.
“Don’t forget the feeling,” said Noah.
“Yeah! It’s almost like we’re siblings,” said James.
“I think we should ask our parents. First, mine,” said James.
“That’s a good idea,” said Noah.
“Let’s do it!” said Emma.
They went to James’s house to ask his dad.
“Dad?” said James.
“Yes, son. Why is there a villain in our house?” said Dad.
“Dad, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I wanted to ask you–are me, Noah, and Emma siblings?” said James.
“Okay, fine. If you want the truth, yes, you all are triplets, and I am your father,” said Dad.
“That would explain how we look alike and have the same power–electricity. And that would mean Mom and Lily are our real mother and sister,” said James.
“Yes, to all that you just said. But you cannot tell anyone about this. If you do, something very bad will happen, and supervillains may kidnap you,” said Dad.
They left the house.
“They figured it out. I know. Our plan is in motion. Soon we will complete it!” said Dad on a phone call.
“I can’t believe it. We are triplets!” said Noah.
“It’s crazy!” said James.
“No, I don’t believe him,” said Emma.
“Come on, it’s true,” said Noah.
“No. We need to take a DNA test to prove it,” said Emma.
“Fine, but it’s probably right,” said James.
“Doctor, we need to do a DNA test,” said Emma.
“Of course. Follow me,” said the doctor.
“Now I will take just a little bit of your blood. Raise your sleeves, please,” said the doctor.
“Okay. Now I will send this to be checked right away,” said the doctor.
“This will change our whole life,” said Emma.
“For the better,” said James.
“I’m nervous,” said Noah.
“We all are nervous,” said James.
“Okay, I’m back, and the results were very shocking,” said the doctor.
“Are we siblings?” asked Noah
“Are we not siblings?” asked James.
“Doctor, just please tell us,” said Emma.
“Okay, so the results are… YOU ALL ARE, IN FACT, TRIPLETS!” said the doctor.
“Thank you, Doctor,” said Noah.
They left the hospital.
Big Changes
A few days later…
“Wow! Now it’s confirmed we are triplets!” said James with excitement.
“Yes! So, what should our superhero name be?” said Emma.
They discussed and decided on their superhero names and group name.
“Roll call!” said Emma.
“Shock Wave,” said James.
“Electro Blast,” said Noah.
“Crystal Storm,” said Emma.
“Together we are known as ‘The 3 Electrics.’ We protect our city and keep it safe with our electricity powers,” they said together.
They saved many lives and sent many bad people to jail.
The Final Battle of Good and Evil
Five months later…
“Guys, have you heard from Dad?” asked James.
“No, not at all,” said Emma.
“Mmm, this cheese is good. Oh, Dad? No, I haven’t heard from him,” said Noah.
“Noah! Focus,” said James.
“Huh? What is this message on my phone?” said Emma.
The message read: [This is for the 3 Electrics. Hello. I have every superhero in this city except you 28 Imperial World School three. Meet me at the top of the mountain tomorrow at 2 PM. Don’t be late.]
“Whoa! What was that? This villain sounds a bit better than the others,” said James.
“Yeah, but he’s nothing we can’t handle,” said Emma.
The next day…
“Let’s go to the mountain now. Be prepared, guys,” said Emma.
“Hello, children. Nice seeing you here,” said Dad.
“Dad? Is that you?” asked James.
“Yes, it’s me. Let me explain everything–how you three were separated to this. You see, when you three were born, I had a master plan to take over this world. So, I kept one of you, which was James. I gave one of you to my best friend, Lantern, which was Noah, and I gave one of you to my other best friend, Rhino Horn, which was Emma. For years, I’ve been planning this. Now, you all have two choices: either fight for this dumb city and die, or join me and rule the world. It’s your choice,” said Dad.
“We choose the first option,” said James.
“So be it. Boys, come and destroy them,” said Dad.
Right in front of them stood many villains, but they never lost hope.
“Oliver?” said James.
“Oh, James, you never knew I was secretly a villain. Now you will die!” said Oliver.
Everything was on fire, and the 3 Electrics were knocked out.
“Haha. Finally, they are dead. I have won,” said Dad.
“No. We will fight till the end,” said James.
They put their hands together and shouted, “Hyyeeahhhhh!”
“Nooooo!” screamed Dad. They had defeated him.
“Everyone okay?” asked the three.
“Yes! That was the best thing we have ever seen,” said everyone.
Two weeks later…
“On my honor, with the whole city, I would like to award ‘The 3 Electrics’ the title of being the best superheroes in the world!” said the mayor.
“Well, guys, we are the best,” said James.
“You said it,” said Emma.
“And we all get it,” said Noah.
