Maulik asked his brother for advice since he was growing wea-
ry and frustrated with life. His brother instructed him to bring a
potato, an egg, and two tea leaves. The water in three of the
vessels was less, so some water was added to them, and they
were set on the stove.
He instructed Maulik to add the ingredients into each of the pots
and to keep an eye on it till the water came to a boil. Then, he
instructed Maulik to peel the potato, and the egg, and to strain
the leaves after waiting for ten minutes. It left Maulik perplexed.
His brother explained, “Each item was placed into the same cir-
cumstance, that is, the boiling water. See how each responded
differently?”
He continued, “The egg was soft, but it is now hard. The potato
was hard but is now soft, and the tea leaves changed the water
itself.” Nirvik then asked Maulik, “When adversity calls, we respond in
the same manner as they have. Now, are you an egg, a potato,
or tea leaves?”
Moral of the Story: We can choose how to respond to difficult
situations.
